I was an in-school suspension teacher for two years at Durand High and Middle School, helping students get caught up on their pre-algebra, social studies, science, English and Spanish homework. Previously to becoming a teacher I worked in industry as a project manager or assistant for different companies, using Spanish occasionally. I student taught in 2004 at Hononegah HS, one semester at Auburn High School before being hired at Durand High School. I taught there for four years and took a job in 2008 at Christian Life High School where I am currently employed during the school year. I prefer to see what the learning style of the student is and then adapt my teaching style to the student.

In high school, I was on our school's speech team, I competed at the varsity level all throughout high school. I placed at every competetion, without fail. I placed in advanced English classes in high school, and tested in to the second level of English classes at Western Illinois University my freshman year. I have won state wide writing competetions, and have a poem published in a book of young writers. I went to school for Journalism and Communications, but am currently taking a year off. I believe that a child cannot fully come to comprehend subject matter without having a chance to be immersed in it first. This philosophy lends to the hands-on, question-oriented form of teaching that I so firmly stand by. I realize that different people employ different strategies in coming to learn new material and I will adjust the way I teach as best I can in order to accommodate each and every individual detail. Much the same as the famous social psychologist Lev Vygotsky emphasized the zone of proximal development, I believe that education should not be approached from the standpoint of "teaching to the test" as much as it deserves to be about aiding a child in coming up with creative alternatives in an effort to master the concept in question and develop an intrinsic motivation to actually want to learn.
