My comments on tutoring Life Science : I have taught Life Science for 1st, 2nd, 5th, and 6th grades. I do many hands-on projects that get the kids involved.

I have worked with children in a variety of settings and ages over the past 25 years: church camp counselor, gymnastics coach, dance instructor, theater, forensics judge, tutor, and classroom teacher. These experiences have both shaped my style of teaching and equipped me with a broad range of skills needed to connect with, instruct, and inspire children. A Little Bit About Me...

I believe the best way for students to learn is by doing and discovering the material hands on as oppose to being lectured to. I like to instruct demonstrate the learning material to my students intially, but after that i prefer to have my students try the material themselves so they can see and understand what aspects of the material they dont understand. That helps me pinpoint what i need to focus on as far as helping them with a particular area of miscomprehension. I strongly believe in learning by doing instead of learning by seeing. I was homeschooled for the majority of my education which enabled me to assit my younger brothers and sisters in their studies. I taught a few Science classes including botony and a study of birds and have tutored in highschool math as well. I played volleyball, took 3 years of piano, and was a member of Chior as well. I worked as a teachers aide in a preschool for 2 years. I worked with children from the age of 6 weeks to 5 years. I plan on going to college for either business or diognostic sonography.

I graduated from UW Oshkosh with a BS degree in Elementary Education and English. I have been a teacher for 18 years. I have taught all subjects to PreK, second and third grades. I have also worked with At risk high school students. I am currently a professional caregiver and activity aide in a group home with individuals who have physical and cognitive disabilities.

I go through all the concepts with the individual pertaining to what portion of statistics they are studying at that time. I will then walk them through a couple of examples demonstrating how to properly obtain the correct answer. I will follow that up by asking them to do a problem without any direct instruction from me. I will watch them work on the problem to assure they are working on it properly. If any mistakes are made I will politely point them out as the individual is working. Finally, I will ask them to work on problems completely on their own and I will check their answers when they are done. I feel the only way to learn statistics, or any math for that matter, is through repetition and working on a lot of problems.

If I had to put a label on my teaching style, I would call it interactive. I believe children learn best if they are actively involved in the learning process. Using materials and techniques that appeal to all of your child's senses is not only a more enjoyable way to teach, but a more effective way to learn.
