I then attended an amazing middle school, where I became Student Body President, captain of the cheerleading team, and All A's student for all 3 years. There, I received the highest achievement a student can receive for all 3 years. In high school, I played varsity volleyball for 3 years, was captain for 2, and received MANY honors and awards for my talent in the sport. It is very important to assess what the student already knows and the level of understanding they hold at the beginning. It is also important to make sure that what they know is correct and that they are not confused or misunderstanding the material. After which, getting to know the individual style of learning for each student will insure that time is used efficiently and that the student is understanding and retaining the material being taught. Working one-on-one is the best teaching method; however, when that is not possible, working in small groups is also very effective.
