I have the exerience to do a super job tutoring.

I have 6 years working with students from grade level 5 to grade level 9,individually in classroom settings as well as in small groups outside their normal classroom. Four and on half of these years were spent in the ELL Program helping Hispanic students to incorporate their use of the English Language in their classroom academics. I have the ability to speak Spanish fluently, as well as read and write it. I also have spent four years teaching an after school class helping some struggling students with their Math, Language Arts, and Science homework.
Since I have been employed in the ELL Program, I am very comfortable working with small groups of kids and also in a one on one format.

A Little Bit About Me...

I love mathematics and one of my passions is to teach it. I know that not everybody learns the same ways or has the same abilities for certain subjects and that is why I differentiate my instruction. I use the constructivist approach because I believe that students learn best by building on what they already know. I also like to use the Socratic questioning to make the students think critically which would help them throughout their lives.
I have worked as a para-educator since 1992 for the Yakima School District. My job is to translate and assist ELL students in the 8th grade mathematics and science classroom. I have a BS in psychology with a minor in biology and a MS in counseling psychology. I have worked in schools as a paraeducator and as a substitute teacher, with one year as a 7th grade biology teacher in a parochial school in Texas. I have worked as an editor and proofreader which, along with my advanced coursework, have given me an excellent of English grammatical skills.
