I always try and connect their interests to the material, so it is more than just words and starts to be interesting. Chemistry is scary to many people, because they try to memorize, it’s too intricate remember everything. I teach the student to understand why and how substances react or behave. I try my best to make the student figure things out on their own, by giving simple guiding questions or comments. I do not like to simply do the problems for them, as I find most people do not learn well this way. I am patient and empathetic, and I understand what it is like to approach a problem from the position of a student who is confused or unsure. I try to give them the tools to understand basic problem solving and critical thinking.
I went to school at EMU with the intention of getting a doctorate in Physics, to teach at the college level. I ended up getting a job in IT at the University, and found I enjoy this just as much.
