I have had intensive study at Case Western Reserve, mostly in chemistry (general chemistry, organic chemistry, analytical chemistry and physical chemistry), but I know many other subjects and I am proficient in them. My approach to teaching is more of a "why" approach. It is more important for students to know why something is or works rather than just how. This approach works well for middle and high school students. It allows students not only to understand the ideas taught but to apply them to other areas as well. I also like to use visual aids as well as conversation. I have found that many of us vary widely in learning styles. Some are visual learners, others are audio learners, and still others are a combination. I work well one-on-one but also enjoy small groups. A Little Bit About Me...

After achieving a bachelors of mathematics from Kent State University, I obtained a long-term substitute teaching certificate in integrated mathematics grades 7-12. I taught in an alternative school for more than a year from 2008-2009. In addition, I obtained employment in a traditional school for the remaining six weeks of the 2009-2010 school year. I was responsibile for the full duties as a certified teacher including lesson planning.
I believe that children learn in a variety of ways and teachers are responsible for providing this variety. I like many teachers, have a constructivist approach. I also understand that students learn through various means and approaches, and teachers must be aware and knowledgeable of the means and approaches necessary to maximize learning and present proper accomodations when needed.

I earned a BA in Philosophy at Kent State University in 2000. Since then I have studied graduate level Mathematics and I taught undergraduate mathematics classes at Kent State University during the course of my graduate studies. At KSU I have taught Fundamental Math 6 which is high school level pre-algebra math and Algebra for Calculus which is freshmen level Elementary Algebra. I am an upcoming May 2006 graduate from Allegheny College, majoring in English.
