I greatly enjoy finding a way to inspire a child to understand the problem at hand. Through from my experience in grade school and my observation of students that attend tough schools I've realized the monotonous class schedule and disciplinary philosophy of most schools deflates most student's desire to succeed. While I can relate to this rebellious reaction I also know that it is no excuse for not trying very hard in school because the main path to success as a young adult is a high school diploma with excellent grades. I am very patient and friendly with students of all abilities.
A diverse education at Wesleyan University has prepared me to tutor many high school subjects. I earned my BA at Wesleyan in Music but I almost double majored in Environmental Science. I use praise when warranted but am firm on deadlines and honesty. Aware of attention span, I take appropriate breaks or switch to another subject. I remind him to read and follow directions and to check his work over before he hands it in. I believe that in this fast-paced technical age your child needs the best chance possible to compete successfully.
