I began tutoring in sixth grade when I voluntarily gave up my lunch recess each day to help in a first-grade classroom. I continued to tutor my peers in high school. After I graduated from Seattle Pacific University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English, I was chosen by the Mayor of Bremerton to teach English in Japan for three years. Upon my return to the United States, I immediately went back to school for my teaching certificate in Elementary Education. I also worked as a Para educator in a special education classroom where I continued to use my teaching skills. It is my experience that an instructor delivers more learning when a student has an interest in the subject. "Inspire rather than require," has far greater efficacy in delivering information. I tend to make it fun, interesting and encourage student participation and feedback. Reward, a basic human desire, engenders craving for learning. As each individual’s qualities are unique, I try to determine if one is a visual, auditory or tactile learner. Analogies often make good teaching aids.
