Tutor for the summer

I use the iPad (excellent resource) books, worksheets and materials I make to fit the situation.
I am a speech therapist with 11 years and experience. I have worked with students pre-k through 12th grade, primarily pre-k through 5th grade. I have extensive experience working with students on reading comprehension, answering and asking questions, semantics of language (antonyms, synonyms, multiple meanings of words, attributes, categorization), syntax, grammar, phonics and much more! I have mainly worked with kids with disabilities, including autism, developmental delays, communication delays, speech and language impairment, and Down Syndrome. I have also worked with students on math skills. I am also very comfortable with tutoring in areas such as GED preparation, as I am good at math, reading, writing, science and history.

A Little Bit About Me...

The reason I chose to go to school for my teaching certificate is that I've always been passionate about learning. I think the best teachers are excited to constantly learn new things. My teaching style is hands-on as often as possible. Students remember very little information taught to them in a lecture format. I try to use manipulatives such as blocks, especially when teaching a subject like math or science. I am very patient and flexible and I love to smile. I believe every child can succeed and I will never give up on a student, no matter how much they may struggle academically.

As the middle child in the family, I was very competitive among my siblings. I was very much driven to achieve goals that I set for myself. I have earned two bachelor degrees, a BA in Theater Art and a BS in Biology, which have enabled me to gain an understanding in various ways areas of science and math. My first experience instructing young people took place while I was in college, coaching elementary girl’s basketball.
