I have two years tutoring experience. In college, I tutored college students who struggled with math (algebra, trigonometry, calculus, etc). Other experience I have is derived from having taken and successfully passed (A) those courses I can tutor. I also help and tutor students who would like to learn how to play piano by ear, chords (major, minor, diminished, augmented), hear a song and determine chords, accompanying a singer, etc. I have experience in playing piano by ear for churches from almost 2 years. I occasionally play piano/keyboard in a band setting.

Every child wants to learn, although a more creative design may be needed to find a child's greatest potential. Patience, consideration, and encouraging words are simple tasks to help the self esteem of children in a child's education.
With a degree from Purdue University and continuing on to get a degree in engineering, I am engaged in many areas of science and math. Even at a young age I taught my younger sister basic mathematical and reading skills even before she entered kindergarten; we called it "school". The youngest, my brother, in which we are both diagnosed with ADHD, is amazing. I quickly learned to be patient with him when helping with his homework because I can see the same frustration on his face I had at his age when trying to concentrate on a difficult task.

My teaching style depends on the student. It takes some time to identify what methods work best on the individual. In most cases, the student just needs a clearer explanation than his/her book or instructor is providing. Also, I like to create visual examples that make an abstract concept into something more practical. A thorough explanation coupled with examples and practice, practice, practice usually prove to help tremendously. It's also important to listen to your student and to constantly test his/her knowledge of concepts as we progress. This helps to identify where the trouble areas are and to reassure that previous learning isn't lost, especially knowledge that is essential in building upon future concepts.
I've had a strong passion for everything related to Math since grade school. This continued into high school, where I was fortunate to have an extraordinary Math ... read more

Having enjoyed mathematics and especially calculus in high school, I decided to major in Mechanical Engineering so that I would be able to enjoy the many math courses that were required. I excelled in Calculus during my studies at Pensacola Christian College. I had the opportunity to help a few other students with their Calculus and other subjects during my Sophomore, Junior, and Senior years. I still enjoy mathematics and would like to tutor students again.
I like to try to explain concepts in a way that I believe my student will find easy to understand. If I find that they do not understand I will try a different method of explaining the concept. I often like to use sketches so students can visualize what is being taught or story problems so they can see some practical applications of how the concept can be used to solve problems.

I am a graduate of Purdue University with a degree in Engineering. Not only have I excelled in math and science throughout the educational process, I also did very well in all other subjects, never receiving less than a 'B' letter grade in any class. More importantly, however, I enjoy passing on to others the knowledge that I have gained. I have had the privilege of tutoring students in Physics, Chemistry, and all levels of mathematics up to Trigonometry. In addition to tutoring other students, I have also had great success tutoring 4 of my own children in a variety of subjects.
I love teaching and working with children of all ages. I believe all children can learn, but each in different ways. I would love to be a part of your child's academic success. My teaching style is largely based around feedback received from students. I like to keep the students actively involved in the learning process by asking questions which serve to point them in the right direction. I try to put myself into the head of the student and understand the difficulties that he/she is facing in learning the material; I can then modify my approach based on what I think will be the most effective way to help the student overcome his/her difficulties in learning. I am very patient with students, and I strive to ensure that they have a deep and complete understanding of the material being taught.
I have always had an interest in helping others learn new material. I have earned a BS and MS in Physics, and in the process of doing this I also did extensive coursework in Mathematics. My education has given me a thorough understanding of these two subjects. At Geo ... read more

I have been a community college adjunct professor for the past 5 years, teaching physics and physical science. I have also tutored in the College Learning Center where I have helped students individually and in small groups in the subjects of physics, astronomy, chemistry and math. I have a BS in Astronomy and am also a graduate of Purdue University with a Master's degree in Civil/Environmental Engineering.
I believe that good teachers must truly like their subjects and also must care about whether or not their students really understand the material. They must find ways to motivate their students to learn and cultivate an interested in the subject. Students usually come to me very anxious and nervous about their physics, chemistry and math classes and I enjoy helping them overcome their anxiety and frustration about these difficult subjects. My goal is not to give answers, but ... read more

As a Purdue University grad, I have firm foundation in the following subjects: Calculus (I, II, & III), General Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Physical Chemistry, Chemical Engineering--(Heat/Mass, Fluids, etc.), Physics (Mechanics and Electricity/Magnetism), Differential Equations, and Linear Algebra. I also completed a minor in Spanish and am able to read, write, and speak the language fluently. Likewise, I took both Anatomy & Physiology courses (along with Intro Bio). I have tutored students in all of the subjects mentioned above for Purdue student athletes and other students.
I have a passion for teaching. I TA'd an intro to Bio course and have experience tutoring many students for well over seven years. I am still a student myself, so I understand the value of tutoring. I tutored all through college. I have tutored one-on-one and small groups, and I have also been a TA and taught a few class periods. In addition i tutored a student in High School in several subjects. Most of my experience tutoring has been in math, physics and engineering, but I am also fluent in Spanish.
My teaching style is helping the student arrive at the correct solution. In problem based courses this is usually done through asking the student what they think the next step should be and guiding them through the process of problem solving. Once they start to understand problem solving then they do not only improve in the course that I am tutoring them in but in their other courses as well. In a nutshell I try to help students learn how to learn.

I enjoy the process of teaching itself. I find it a very rewarding experience to introduce others to a new and somewhat unusual way of looking at things when I teach about physics or mathematics. In many ways both can be confusing and to many seem counter-intuitive. This challenge makes it satisfying when students begin to understand the concepts and see them confirmed by real life. By directing students and using a gradual reduction of assistance on problems students build the confidence to tackle any kind of problem. In addition to teaching the knowledge necessary for handling a problem, I believe it is necessary to also teach the techniques for applying that knowledge to any problem.
I have taught in many different formats in both mathematics and physics. At Purdue University, I ran a physics laboratory class as well as did tutoring in a help center for physics. Afterword ... read more

I taught one year at Zionsville Community High School, where I taught Algebra I, Prealgebra, and Basic Math. I currently teach at Tri-Central High School, where I have been for nine years. I teach AP Calculus AB, Precalculus, and Geometry. I have also taught Algebra I at Tri-Central. I have had experience tutoring, both in high school and college. I have tutored students in Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, Precalculus, and AP Calculus AB.
I have a very strong passion towards teaching. While many teachers tend to go towards adminstration afters 10 years of teaching, I have no desire to go that route. I want to remain teaching in this subject area because I find joy in math, and I want to help students find joy in math as well. I hope that my enthusiasm spills over into the classroom easily for my students, which is my strongest characteristic. I use a very traditional style ... read more
