Throughout my successful career as a teacher and school counselor, I've instructed every level from kindergarten to college level. Likewise I've had the privilege of working with various cultures, ages and achievement levels. Due to my certification and years of experience I've taught every subject area in grades K-8, worked with high school students in language arts and sciences, assisted with study skills and test preparation and taught reading to adults as well as other college level classes. I have a reading endorsement and a counseling psychology certification so I am versed in Special Education issue also. I really enjoy working one on one with students, because in a one on one situation, I am really able to tailor my teaching to the individual. I try and recognize where the student is strong, and encourage those traits, while recognizing where they need growth, and doing my best to help them grow in those areas. My teaching style focuses on teaching students how to find the big picture. If they understand what it is they are trying to do, then showing them how to get there becomes easier. Any student can learn math, and have the capability to understand numbers, this just comes harder for some and easier for others. In my past I have benefited greatly from some math teachers, and fallen behind in classes where I was not getting what the teacher was talking about. Tutors can be a great help in pushing students over a difficult concept or idea. Then, when the student is back on track, they can take their education in their own hands again.
