I try to present a concept or fact in several different ways so that I can resonate with the students thinking style. I really enjoy ideas. One of my favorite things is to see someone make a connection for the first time between two ideas or concepts. I enjoy teaching through dialogue and conversation. I have a gift, I'm told, for analogies, and for explaining things in ways that enable people to understand new or complex ideas. I feel like it is important to connect to students on a personal level yet still retain a professional attitude. Children tend to respond to someone who is fun and friendly, instead of a person who chooses not to connect with students in this way. I am very passionate about learning and teaching what I have learned to others. I think if you can get a child interested in a subject he or she will be more willing to learn and enjoy his or her work more because he or she is personally benefiting from it. I was not able to obtain a teaching job when I graduated from college so went to work in the field of business. My jobs included: private secretary to a County Judge, bookkeeper, loan processor for a savings and loan, receptionist, cashier, manager, assistant librarian and owner of an electric motor repair business.
