My teaching style is very interactive. I like to begin a tutoring session by helping the student set a goal for the session. We then begin work on the material. During the session I encourage the student's learning by asking open-ended questions to encourage critical thinking. With writing assignments, the pen is always in the student's hand and, with guidance, the student makes choices about his or her writing. I use a method I call guided discovery, which encourages students to think in depth about their subject, discovering new methods and information with guidance from me.

In my undergraduate studies, I volunteered as a high school athletics coach and took advantage of opportunities to lead college lectures in History, American Literature, and Philosophy. As a graduate student I continued this passion as a volunteer teacher at Community High School in Ann Arbor; there, I used my experience in athletics as a volunteer teacher of a fitness course, and I designed a course on Social Rebellion through Literature which I volunteered to teach as well.
