I have worked in the educational field for 25 plus years now. My first experience in the profession was in the mid-80's as a private tutor for junior high and high school students. I was also hired by my town and a neighboring town to provide homebound instruction. Subject areas I was responsible for included social sciences, American and world history, mathematics and English. I believe that to teach, you must reach the student fully, and to reach the student is to actively engage the student in the lesson. The students are more interested if they are put in the situation or if they are doing something hands-on rather than listening to the teacher.
