My comments on tutoring Marine Biology : Subject that I have taught as an elective subject.

I was employed by the Lakeland Central School District as a substitute Teacher Aide and later in a full time capacity. I worked for the OASIS Program and later at the Alternative High School. After completing my Bachelor's Degree at Concordia College, I applied for and was accepted into the New York City Teaching Fellows Program. I taught Special Education at a high needs urban high school in the Bronx. This was a challenging and rewarding experience. Many of my students continued on to post secondary schools. I am currently finishing my Master's degree program at City College of New York, expected graduation is May 2013.
I have a varied style, which is geared to the learning style of my students. I teach world to text, text to text, text to life.

Become a star, through dedication and desire to succeed!!

I have taught in both suburban schools at the high school level and urban schools at the elementary/middle school level. While teaching I previously have tutored students. My main experience teaching has been various science courses but I have also taught math and reading. I began my education thinking I would be an elementary school teacher but then discovered my love of science so I took additional classes while completing my Master's so I could be certified to teach science. When I began teaching I realized many special education students were not receiving the appropriate accommodations to ensure their success so I decided to specialize in Special Education as I pursue my PhD so I can offer the best education to my students and help them become successful and feel confident with their new skills.
I love interacting with my students and finding out what drives them and what ... read more

As a current Director of Health for a large City in Connecticut, I have learned the value of education and the use of my technical skills to communicate with my residents and help them improve their health as well. I have earned multiple degrees in Public Health, Experimental Pathology, Soil and Environmental Sciences. These degrees were both the foundation for my profession and the avenue for my understanding of Epidemiology and applied Statistics. During the past 10 years I have consulted with the Federal Government, Insurance companies, been a visiting lecturer at New York Medical College, Naugatuck Valley Community College as well as been a professor of Epidemiology at Western Connecticut State University.

I would consider my teaching style to be very organic and adaptable. I consider each student individually, and I evaluate what works best for that student in particular. I am trained in various forms of teaching, and I have a complete understanding of the various learning personalities and characteristics of students that I have worked with and will work with in the future.
I began mentoring students during my tenure at Regis High School, a private, full-scholarship-only high school in New York City at the age of 17. I have tutored over 30 different students in nearly all academic areas, including SAT, ACT, ISEE, SSAT and Academic Programs for grades K-12. A Little Bit About Me...

My classroom lessons and activities are created around the belief that children learn best by doing. I choose to go beyond the traditional science classroom and provide a dynamic and engaging classroom environment focused on students. I choose to be the navigator, guiding students through the learning process, rather than being the process itself. By providing the support and encouragement, I hope that my students will move from being dependent on the instructor for information to being the seeker of knowledge. Regardless of their chosen path, every child will learn during their time with me and create a foundation of knowledge from which to build.
During my four years of college, I learned an extensive degree of time management. I was a full time biology student with an education certification attached, a softball player (captain for last two years), and a supervisor at a loc ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

After studying medicine for 3 years in college I decided that I wanted to be a teacher. I was lucky enough to land a job where I taught both science and Math.I was a teacher for 3 years. I taught Algebra, Precalculus, Chemistry and Biology at the high school level.
I loved my time in the classroom helping children to love learning both math and science. I believe that all children can love those subjects although many find them difficult. It takes a patient person who loves to teach and learn themselves to teach the difficult processes of Math and science and that person is me.

After graduating from college with a BA, I began working for an environmental restoration and public education program. We led large volunteer groups sometime of more than 100 people, in local park and forest restoration event, and also led youth groups on 10 day restoration and hiking trips in the national forest. After this I worked for a program that places tutors in schools that are in need, where i tutored K-5 students in reading, led a ESL class of about 10 students, and worked as a teachers assistant in the class room. I have spent the last several years at a monastery where I have had experience mentoring and working with the public in meditation programs. I enjoy learning myself, and find the opportunity to help others learn and enjoy expanding their knowledge a very worthwhile activity.

I never give up on a child. I also never push a child on any task that are really difficult for him or her. Time and patience is an important factor in teaching and tutoring. More often, as a teacher it is my duty to really know my students and the best way to approach their learning abilities. I have taught in a classroom setting for so many years, and it is sometimes frustrating to teach a concept that the curriculum as mandated by the state must be forced into a child no matter what. It is up to the teacher then to make adjustments, changes and flexible evaluations without watering it down that could be workable across the board. I often do this and the results are more than successful.
Being a teacher in the middle school has given me the drive and the energy to pursue different avenues of the teaching and learning process. My passion for Science and for Math has given me ... read more

Educational Philosophy Teacher-directed classroom management is most closely aligned with my beliefs in the beginning of a school year because I want the students to understand that I am the leader of the classroom and that ultimately I am responsible for what transpires in the classroom. As the school year progresses, it is my belief that the classroom should continue to evolve with a student-centered approach with an emphasis on students vesting in learning as much as they can from inquiry and from each other. I want to shape a positive learning environment where students are excited about working to their own potential.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have earned a BS in Biology with a Chemistry minor and an MS in Science Education. I also possess my Initial Educator Certificate in 7-12 Biology. I have experience with middle school, high school and college level students in classroom settings, but prefer the one-on-one setting where I can concentrate on helping students.
In order to be a successful teacher, one must create interactive yet stimulating lessons. I always try to relate my lessons to my students’ daily lives and show them that science is not only about learning theories and laws, but it can also be fun and exciting. I believe that as a teacher/tutor, my role is to guide my students towards information that they can use in everyday life. I also believe that establishing a rapport between myself and my students is key to my gaining their trust and helping them to succeed in school as well as in life.
