My comments on tutoring Social Studies : I am experienced in tutoring most of the middle school and high school Social Studies curriculum, at all levels. If you need help with 6th, 7th or 8th grade social studies, Global History I or II, U.S. History (Regents or AP), a Government class, Psychology, AP World, or AP European, please let me know. (I can not help you with Economics though, alas.)

Students being tutored one-on-one deserve lessons customized to their learning style. My sessions often incorporate some writing and topic discussion along with activities tailored to the student's interests, skill development needs and preferences.
This is my fourth year tutoring middle and high school students in History and Government. I also have professional classroom teaching experience and volunteer elementary school teaching experience. My students, primarily Global History, World History and European History students, have raised their class grades, passed the Regents exam by many points and earned high scores on the AP. I specialize in both content acquisition and essay writing skills. Some students have worked with me for half a year or more, others for a month or two before cumulative exams.

Learning Can be Easy and Fun!

For the past 10 years I have been tutoring, working with students and helping them in various subjects. I graduated Magna Cum Laude from Binghamton University, SUNY in 2005. My GPA was 3.8, and I was on Dean's list every semesterOne of the subjects I tutor is college statistics and a student of mine went from an F to a B. Also, I prepare students for SATs/ACT, and my last student improved by over 200, total score 1420. I tutor individually as well as in small groups. I am an excellent English, ESL and Russian tutor. I can help my pupils with grammar/reading/writing at beginner- advanced level. I have had many ASVAB students, who were very pleased with the results they attained. The GRE and LSAT are also subjects I cover.
I am very patient and I make sure the student thoroughly understands a topic before moving on. I motivate the student to succeed and teach good study skills and t ... read more

My comments on tutoring Social Studies : Content can be very creative, when the teacher brings the facts to life and has the students play the historical roles.

I received my bachelor degree in elementary education. After having my two daughters, I went to graduate school and achieved a masters degree as a Reading Specialist. I was a graduate assistant and taught in a learning center for two years while earning my masters degree. Upon graduation I was an adjunct professor at C.W. Post, taught reading at a private school, a public school and then worked full time managing the reading department In an elementary school for eighteen years. During that time I had the opportunity to teach a support before school program, summer literacy as the lead teacher, creating my curriculum and a Saturday Academy in the middle school teaching study skills and test prep.
My teaching style is very structured due to my training, however, I can be extremely creative and motivating with the most challenging students!

My comments on tutoring Social Studies : I am skilled at teaching social studies.

Business executive looking to assist elementary and high school children with their studies. I am a voracious reader and a life-long learner. I like children, have had exposure to tutoring before, enjoyed it immensely, was very good at it (in the sense that the children enjoyed my friendly manner and enjoyed the learning experience) and would like to help children remedy deficiencies and perhaps even learn how to enjoy learning as much as I do.
Friendly, non-threatening, clear and accomplishment-oriented.

Social Studies is one of my top subjects! I am very familiar with the middle school Social Studies curriculum. My student teaching was in 7th and 8th grade Social Studies. I took the time to work with students outside of the classroom, and have various strategies for working with students at all skill levels.

I have a strong passion for working with kids and helping them succeed and progress academically. I stride on giving my students a sense of confidence in and out of the classroom. I have worked with kids out of the classroom as a camp counselor, as well as a home tutor. I worked at a camp for kids ages 5-12 with hearing disabilities, where I created interactive fun learning activities. My philosophy on teaching history is that students learn and absorb the information more when they are taught not just what happened, but why it happened. I find that students don't hold onto information when they are taught to memorize facts. In my experience students are able to perform better when they know the history behind those facts, and how to expand on them . My passion for history allows me to make learning fun for the students. I have experience working in the classroom as a student teach ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

Creative. I try to make learning fun. I believe that the problem is that kids don't find learning fun so they don't want to do it.
I've been tutoring my classmates, neighbor's kids & friends for a long time in specified subjects and with specific assignments. My speciality is a tie between Social Studies and English. My favorite moment is when they get that look in their eyes when they finally understand something and say "Oh! I get it now!"
