My ESL teaching style includes an approach called 'whole language learning', which includes reading, writing, speaking, and listening. I also implement interactive learning (i.e. conversation and dialogues, interactive websites, etc.) and learning through play/games. I always adapt my teaching methods to my students' learning styles, whether they be auditory, visual, TPR, tactile, or analytic learners.
As a certified TESL instructor, I have worked as an ESL teacher for Aston English in Weihai, China for the past 12 months. Before my time teaching abroad, I volunteered in an English learning class at Ozark Technical Community College in Springfield, Missouri. I believe the biggest key to learning is finding a way for students to relate to the information. Getting to know the student and relating thier interests to the material at hand is key to making a connection. I also believe it is critical to remain positive and supportive with students. At some point every student becomes frustrated by material that is challenging to them. By being able to keep students in a positive state of mind and by keeping the material fresh and fun, students will be more willing and able to continue the learning process.
