I was a professor at Ithaca College for 34 years in the music department. In that capacity I taught private performance lesson, coached chamber ensembles, conducted various ensembles. supervised and coached student teachers, performed in a faculty artist-in-residence quintet, performed solo recitals, assisted students in writing essays, resumes, and applications for positions in the teaching field or graduate studies. I also had many experiences helping students through difficult academic and personal issues. Spanish is one of my top subjects! BA in Spanish, Allegheny College, 1983. MS in Bilingual Education SUNY at Brockport, 1989. Junior year at the University of Madrid, Spain. I tutored and taught Spanish to students of a variety of ages, needs, and backgrounds. I have had work experience in teaching Spanish as a Home/Hospital Tutor for BOCERS #1 and the Rochester City School District, the Incercerated Youth program at the Monroe CountyJail and Correctional Facility for the Rochester City School District, (Spanish and GED in Spanish and English), as a private tutor, as a Bilingual caseworker and as a translator.

I teach according to the style that best works for the child, and I take the first couple of tutoring sessions to figure out a child's strengths, weaknesses, interests, and most effective learning style. Regardless of style, however, I believe that a multisensory approach to teaching is best for a child, as it allows teachers to tap into areas of strength of which the student may not be aware. Spanish is one of my top subjects! I am fluent in Spanish and feel that I would be a wonderful teacher for anyone looking to learn the language. I studied Spanish for over a decade, and also lived in Salamanca, Spain for a year. It was this year where I mastered the language and grew to learn about its rich culture.

I think it is important to touch on many different aspects of a language when learning it. Listening and speaking in order to put into practice the grammar and vocabulary one has learned is key. It would be best to follow the structure of a book so that the student has something to reflect back on the keep them on track, however if a student doesn't want to use a book, note taking will be sufficient. Also watching movies or tv shows in the language that one is studying will help to improve listening comprehension.
