A Little Bit About Me...

I believe that students do not learn the same way. My teaching style incorporates all learning styles. When teaching a lesson I believe in using secondary reading sources, technology, video clip and other creative outlets. I believe that you must motivate the student to learn not thrust curriculum at them hoping it will sink in. I have five years of experience working with troubled youth and students with disabilities.
I have been teaching English and History education for three years. I have experience on the 7th, 8th 9th and 10th grade levels. For the last three years my high school English courses have been centered on ACT prep. for the ACT/MME students take their junior year. My eighth grade curriculum focuses on strengthening testing scores, reading comprehension and writing ability (formal and creative). I graduated from Central Michigan University with a Bachelor Degree in Elementary Education/Child Development (ZA Endorsement). From that point on, I subbed in various elementary schools, including Rockford and Comstock Park. I obtained a kindergarten position at St. Adalbert School in the fall of 1996 and taught there for four years. I then transferred to St Paul the Apostle School in 2000, where for the past 10 years I have taught first grade. I earned my Master's Degree in Reading in the year 2003, which made me qualified to be a reading specialist.
I hold high expectations for all my students to achieve the best that they can do. I am aware that there are various learning styles in the classroom, especially with first grade!
