I believe it is very important for children to learn to enjoy the process of learning. Every child learns and relates to new information differently, so teachers must use appropriate teaching strategies to ensure the success of their students. My goal is to help students to make better grades, but teach them HOW to learn where they can become independent lifelong learners. I graduated from WKU with a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education, and during this time I worked at an elementary school during their after school program helping tutor and supervise the children. After I graduated, I substituted for several school districts in mostly elementary grades, but I also worked in middle & high school. The most enjoyable part of my job is being able to show someone a bit of engineering or to help them with their engineering work . My teaching style is more to ask questions of student and not to lecture. I also believe in using a humorous or pratical analogy for abstract concept and theory. My previous job involved the design and review of Bridges, Culverts, and storm sewers on highway projects to insure completeness and accuracy. I believe each student can learn and it’s my responsibility to find how each one learns best. So much of it is about instilling confidence in the student that he or she is intelligent and capable of mastering the subject. I have been very successful at this and have often had short tutoring assignments: once we discover what is keeping a student from grasping the subject, fixing it is easy and then the student can proceed on their own with or without the help of a parent. The younger the student, the more I appreciate having the parent involved in what I am doing, and the results we are achieving, so they can actively participate with their child, especially once I am no longer needed.
