It is very important to assess what the student already knows and the level of understanding they hold at the beginning. It is also important to make sure that what they know is correct and that they are not confused or misunderstanding the material. After which, getting to know the individual style of learning for each student will insure that time is used efficiently and that the student is understanding and retaining the material being taught. Working one-on-one is the best teaching method; however, when that is not possible, working in small groups is also very effective.

I have taught for 15 years in inner city St. Louis, MO, 5 years at Job Corps in Kentucky, and 3 years in alternative schools in Kentucky. I have recently obtained the status of Professional Land Surveyor with the State of Kentucky. I have taught young graduates surveying practices in relation to the Engineering field while in management positions. I would be very excited about teaching children.
