My comments on tutoring Algebra : "Excellent instruction" - Stacy, Lexington, KY on 2/29/12 My daughter has always struggled with math in general. Algebra became overwhelming for her. Devin has been SO helpful. He takes time to explain concepts so that she can more easily understand. He is very patient and very knowledgeable. He even works ahead with her using her textbook so that she is prepared in advance for her next class concept. She made an A on her first test after tutoring with Devin. We couldn't be more happy with choosing Devin to tutor our daughter in Algebra I. Thank you Devin!!

My Motto: With each concept I did not know, there’s always a journey. Even if I don't know something, I will strive to learn it. This motto has proven to be very invaluable… even early on throughout high school as I received a full academic scholarship to a well respected and prestigious university. As a graduate at Transylvania University, I understand the struggles that school life presents. Either the teacher doesn't explain things in a way the student understands, or the student happens to lack the motivation necessary to be successful in that class. Keeping this in mind, I will provide the best structure, information, and strategy(ies) possible to give your student ultimate success in their math class. I have tutored various levels of math at various ages/abilities. My tutoring first started when I was in high school in an after school program. Mainly, I would help with algeb ... read more

I enjoy teaching and working with students. I believe all children can learn according to their individual learning styles. I enjoy seeing success when the students understand the material and achieve to their greatest potential. Since I have a child of my own who has struggled with a Learning Disability, I have learned various methods and techniques to help him understand the content material. If a student does not understand the way in which I am explaining the material, I present the same material, but in a different manner until he/she understands. My easy going nature and fun personality allows me to make learning interesting. I have always believed that the best way for someone to learn is to put the information into terms that are understandable to them. In the past I have used illustrations, acted out scenes from battles, utilized initialisms, and made up songs to help students learn concepts. Connections between the content and familiar concepts are essential, and thus I find it very important to get to know the student and how they learn in order to best help them. My goal is to make sure that all my students are able to reach their educational goals, and ultimately by the end of our sessions my students will be able to teach the information to someone else.

As a communication disorders major I have acquired an understand and love for working with children. During my internship I was able to work one-on-one with children who have language disabilities. It was through this internship that I learned what a reward it can be to help others, and to see them flourish intellectually.
I have always believed that each child is truly unique. I However do not believe that all education and forms of it, should be uniform. Working with children with special needs has allowed me to be able to get to know the student and adjust the curriculum so that the child will be able to benefit the most from!

I like to ask questions and get the student involved. I like to get the student engaged as much as possible. I would like to observe the method in which the student obtains the most information and expound on that variable, triggering many senses for better memorization. My teaching style would consist of trying to get the student to understand what they are studying which is considerably better than just simple short term memorization.
I earned a well rounded education from Western Kentucky University with a strong emphasis in math / Engineering. Since College I have pursued the Surveying field. I have recently obtained the status of Professional Land Surveyor with the State of Kentucky. I have taught young graduates surveying practices in relation to the Engineering field while in management positions. I would be very excited about teaching children.

I am a 60-year old man who has taught every subject at every grade level as an artist in the schools for over 35 years. I currently substitute in all the grades in Hart County so I have had to demonstrate knowledge of every subject at every grade level. I have been in the classrooms of public schools every day for about 60% of my adult life. I hold a Bachelor's Degree from Oberlin College with a major in Biology and minors in Chemistry and Math. I have tutored a lot over the years, and whereas I am comfortable handling any subject, my particular strong point is Math. I am able to find the way that students can understand the principles being learned (and this way is different for each student).
I believe each student can learn and it’s my responsibility to find how each one learns best. So much of it is about instilling confidence in the student that he or she is intelligent and ca ... read more

Pedagogy is the queen art and the most subtle science; like all creative endeavors, it involves a comfortable, mutual dialogue between the teacher and the taught in which both parties are effectively equal partners in the engagement and negotiation of the subject at hand. No truly transformative teaching is less than a journey, rich with surprises, in which student and teacher sojourn to the heart of great truths and discover the resolve to meet challenges and obstacles to learning with unfettered exuberance and eternal patience. Caring, kindness, and encouragement are the marrow of the relation; joy, together with accomplishment the twin results. There is no shortcut to great teaching but genuine caring, and the crafting of an individualized plan of study for each particular student. I employ this advice, and adapt integrated plans for student success based upon careful research and sop ... read more
