I have taught an array of Biology courses at College level for over 10 years. During my time as a Graduate student at Louisiana State University, I have taught college freshman and have tutored high school students. After receiving my PhD, I taught Biology at Rogers State University. I am very comfortable teaching a wide array of Biology courses. Hands on, and more of an application study. I believe that the only way to actually understand something is being able to apply it to real world situations.
My experience is all in college. I had 9 Labs in college in all my science courses. I excelled very well in my science courses and i keep learning. Did great in my research project class. Played college baseball so i am great with athletes that do not want to study. I can break down big concepts into smaller concepts that is understandable for all students in the academia process. I very much enjoyed my experience as a teaching assistant. Also, my clinical experience as a student physical therapist has allowed me to see that all people have different teaching styles, and the teacher has to recognize that and adapt accordingly. I make a consistent effort to do this with my patients, to use whatever it takes so they can understand such as demonstration, verbal, or allowing them to just do it.
Currently, I am in my final year of obtaining my doctorate degree in physical therapy. As an undergraduate student, I served as a teaching assistant to the freshmen biology labs which involved me grading lab reports, setting up exams, and primarily teaching the students what they did not understand from lecture. There are so many different teaching styles and learning styles. As a tutor the teaching style is going to be dependent on the student's learning style. Not everyone can teach. As a Dean, I had to interview many potential instructors. I believe that a teacher needs to be caring, compassionate and encourage students at all times.
