My comments on tutoring Dyslexia : I have been a special education teacher for most of my teaching career specializing in dyslexia. I am a trained, certified dyslexia specialist and have been working with students with dyslexia for 8 years. I feel that the program that I use is very beneficial because it is a multisensory approach to teaching students to read. I also teach study skills so that my students become successful in school.

I have been in Education for 19 years, but have been a teacher much longer than that! I have been involved in teaching somehow since I was a young girl, working as a Sunday School teacher or as a teacher for Vacation Bible School, as a camp counselor for the YMCA Daycare program and as a tutor while in college. I have been a certified teacher for 19 years, spending most of those years in Special Education. I started my career as a substitute teacher in Northeast Ohio, moved to Texas to teach Special Education as a resource teacher, moved to teaching third grade and then back to Special Education as an Intervention Specialist working with small groups of students in all grade levels. A Little Bit About Me...

After graduating from high school in June 2003, I went on to further my education at Kent State University of Kent, OH. At Kent State, I majored in Special Education: Mild to Moderate Disabilities. Upon completion of my program and graduation from Kent State in December 2007, I received my Bachelor of Science in Education. I graduated with the honor of Magna Cum Laude because of a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.74. As a special education teacher, I have a great deal of experience in working with beginning readers and writers, as well as beginning math. However, I am certified to teach learners in grades K-12. I graduated from college with certification to teach grades 1-12. Do to the job market at that time, I was unable to get a full time teaching job. I substituted and then tutored for 2 years. I then worked various jobs working with the public. Although much of work experience is not in the teaching field, I have worked with people in many ways to reach their full potential and can relate to them on a level that they will comprehend.
I believe in using a multi- modality approach to teaching. The more senses involved, the more likely one will remember. I also believe in trying to make material needed to learn to seem approachable or pertinent in their lives.(No matter the age) Anyone can learn if it is presented in a way that makes it exciting and fun.
