My teaching style is one in which I find ways to relate content to the students' everyday lives. I like to balance textbook knowledge with practical applications and cultural relevance. I also am a firm believer in planning lessons that require higher order thinking skills yet do not become overwhelming. In my undergraduate studies, I focused primarily on the student's use of imagination as it relates to literacy comprehension. While I have successfully completed credits in advanced mathematics and engineering, my passion is in English. I would describe my teaching style as one that consistently attempts to meet the student at his or her current level of need, with the aim of continuously moving him or her toward the goal of competency in the subject area, particularly as it relates to the critical thinking skills needed to accomplish the task. Practice makes perferct; but, without the adequate thought processes needed to accomplish the task, any amount of practice is undermined.
