I have worked with Middle School age youth for almost a decade. I am Site Coordinator at an after school program & run a science focused club there. I also occasionally help the students who have been removed from our Homework Room with a number of subjects. I enjoy imparting my knowledge to my students via a variety of hands on learning activities and have always been a keen math, science and language arts student myself. Throughout school, I also played every woodwind instrument except the Oboe. While in college, I took every Agricultural Education class offered, as it is my intended area of post graduate study, and gained a grasp of educational psychology, classroom management and lesson planning. I love to educate children of many ages I have a 4 year old and a 2 year old in the house. You teach many different aspects of life, not just academically. Being a tutor for grades 6-8 was different because they had the basics. They needed to be informed and focused. I received my Bachelor's degree in 1989 and worked as an assistant engineer in Binghamton NY until I started my masters program at SUNY Cortland. I have held Physics, Earth science, Chemistry and Biology appointments in the years that followed in a variety of School districts throughout the state. I approach teaching on an individual level. Not everyone can learn the oboe or flute in the same approach. This is why one must utilize various teaching techniques to best fit each student. I also believe in making the learning enjoyable, yet valuable to the student. Any performing musician should have a theoretical and historical knowledge of the music they are playing.
