I like to break things down to the component level in order to show the inner workings and the why of things for a more complete understanding. However, not all students are interested nor need to know the inner workings of things to succeed so I adjust my style to suit the student's needs. I do enjoy that "Aha!" moment when I've been able to break through a student's barrier and help them see the how and the why of something. It makes my day when that happens.
