Composition is one of my top subjects! I am an English major

I have always been a teacher. I taught swimming when I was 14 and French to fifth graders when I was in high school. I love working in education. I believe that all people, young and old, can learn and reach their potential. My teaching style is calm and patient. I have a good sense of humor and am creative. However, I have high expectations for my students and for myself. I find joy in learning and believe that teaching allows me to share this joy.
I have been a teacher for 40 years. I retired because family care-giving required my full attention. My studies prepared me to teach and my experience prepared me to meet the needs of each student. Learning comes with a pinch of confidence & creativity. :)

I implement creativity, and ample amount of positive, fun energy into the way I teach. I believe the key to any child's learning is first instilling confidence into them. When a kid learns confidence, they begin to have the fuel needed to learn. As they grow in this confidence, they can begin to experiment in their learning and become creative in the skills they master.
I have tutored for Acers tutoring in Orlando for a full year. I have full experience with teaching reading and writing, as well as somer lower level algebra and mathematic skills. The kids have ranged from ages 8-14. As well, I have been giving guitar lessons to kids between the ages of 10-14. The children have all been able to pick up quickly, and being a song writer, I encourage the kids to seek full creativity in their music and learning. In college, I've spent my time volunteering with the youth group, and hel ... read more

Honors High School Graduate with experience in teaching

My lessons can range from private lessons to group lessons of no more than five at one time. I prefer to be very involved in my students' progress, and will readily explain any questions that they do not understand. My main strategy is basically to lay out the concepts that will be covered that day, go over several practice problems, and give three or four practice problems for the students to work on independently. For art students, I will demonstrate with explanation the concept that we will be covering in that lesson (be it portraiture basics or still life basics), draw diagrams with the steps clearly labeled, and have the student independently work on a similar piece which applies the same concepts. I will supervise the student's progress and correct any lasting errors, but I prefer to have the students produce an almost entirely independently produced piece each session.

My comments on tutoring Composition : 21 years of teaching English Compositon

I have had the pleasure of teaching English to high school students for 25 years. This was an occupation that I enjoyed immensely. My duties included teaching reading comprehension on a literal and figurative level. My background enabled me to present historical background on particular novels and authors. I have also taught all levels of writing. Some of these include written analysis of literature, first person narrative essays, creative writing, and writing for college.

The Student Comes First

I am a graduate of Tennessee Temple University, with experience tutoring at Tennessee Temple University, as well as University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, in various topics, including biodiversity, mathematics (up to pre-calculus), history, and American Sign Language. I continue to study in my personal time as many topics as possible, with the belief that a good tutor is firstly a good student.
I allow my teaching style to mold itself to each individual student, finding methods of communicating the information that best suit the learning style of my student. I favor a holistic approach to learning, believing that education should be of the whole person. If a student learns how a skill in his tutoring session can be applied in real life, then his or her perception of the subject may fundamentally improve.

I Will Meet You Where You Are!

Hello! I have 15 years of teaching experience in the classroom and have been tutoring now since January of 2012. I have a true passion for teaching! I have taught in the parochial, private, and public schools. I taught at Assumption Catholic School from 1997-2004, English and Reading to 6th-12th grade ESE students at The Broach School from 2004-2008, and Intensive Reading to 11th and 12th graders at Andrew Jackson High School (public inner city urban in Duval County) from 2010-2011. I have also conducted FCAT, ACT, and SAT prep, as well as study skills in the summer months when students don't have schoolwork! While in the classroom my average student came up 3-4 grade levels in a year in reading comprehension, fluency, vocabulary, spelling, and language mechanics. My certification was in English 6-12 while in the classroom
I believe every student can learn! School was never meant t ... read more

Work Smart, not Hard

Senior majoring in Psychology and Political Science at Auburn University. I attended a college prep high school in the top 10% of my class. I scored a 29 on the ACT and 1370 (without writing) on the SAT. I'm in the Honors college at Auburn and am a member of multiple organizations and honors societies including the Auburn University Mock trial team and Phi Lambda Sigma honors society. My goal is to attend law school after graduating this spring. I have some experience tutoring high school algebra I/II but I am experienced enough to cover a range of other subjects.
Hands on Socratic method of teaching where the focus is allowing your student to arrive at the answers themselves with the help of some targeted guidance and strategies.

ALL STUDENTS WELCOME!

Whenever I can, I like to be very hands-on in my teaching my students. For example, once I was teaching my class about trees. I had them go outside and collect samples of bark which had fallen on the ground. Then we created a gigantic mural in my classroom and glued the pieces of bark to a tree we had drawn.
I have been a self-employed Tutor since April, 2006. Special needs and home schooled students are welcomed. Nothing makes me happier than when I see the smiles on the faces of my students when they succeed rather than fail. I assist all students in skill building and creating a life-long love of learning. I provide on-going feedback to parents and am happy to work with the teachers of my students.

My comments on tutoring Composition : A former professional writer, editor, and teacher, I am thoroughly proficient in the skills, style, and techniques necessary for effective composition.

Having been tutor at Huntington Learning centers and a private tutor, I excel at one on one tutoring relationships. It is essential to understand the level of competence of the student and moving from that to gradual improvement of skills. Each student is an individual, with unique views and talents; therefore, each expresses their views in unique ways. It is my job to nurture these views to their ultimate expression.
Starting as an English major, and working as a tutor for Huntington Learning Centers, I have always loved working with students of all levels in the English language - in all its facets: from grammar to style. At a time when proper use of the language is increasingly rare (but required to master tests) it is a special interest of mine to promote successful language arts skills and strategies in students. Good writing can be persuasive, informative, or entertainin ... read more

Composition is one of my top subjects! I have been teaching Composition material for over 10 years

I have wanted to teach students since the first grade. My mother has all my memoirs stored away. I have learned to be so creative in the English realm. I have created so many assignments over the years for my students. Each year the assignments are different. I have also used my creative models as manipulatives for students when they are struggling with English or reading. I teach students to explore and engage in the world of learning and not just follow someone else's lead. The world is filled with creativity I as well as my students have been on an exploration voyage for years.
My passion for teaching is enormous. I am an innovative teacher who really allow students to use their multiple intelligences. I feel in order for a student to successful with his/her learning he or she has to be comfortable with the exposed environment. I allow a lot of group collaboration in my classro ... read more

I teach either one on one or in groups with the same subject, depending on how many students I get.
I have been taking classes at Daytona State for 1 semester, but like my credentials said, I have gotten awards through them from my Middle School, and high school. I have been tutoring since 2003. More About This Tutor...

I consider myself easy going and fun. In my experience as a teacher, I find that the most effective results come through what might be called "gentle guidance" rather than a more dictatorial style of teaching. I believe that children love to learn new things and are curious by nature, making the job of teaching an easy one, for all that needs to be done is to arouse the interest that already exists, and show them the opportunities available to them. As a former Corporate Pilot, I understand the need for structure and attention to detail, and believe that these elements can be incorporated into lessons in dynamic and exciting ways, providing the best possible learning experience.
I began my teaching career as a writing/reading tutor while attending Ramapo College of New Jersey. During this time I was working in the English Lab, and was responsible for helping students improve their ... read more
