My love of the French language led me to pursue my BA specializing in the language and culture in college. After college I immediately traveled to France on a very generous scholarship from Rotary Foundation. This permitted me to live and study at a very old and prestigious university in Poitiers, France. I also tutored the children of my host family in English to earn a bit of extra money for traveling. I learned Spanish while in the Army for the purpose of intelligence gathering. As a successful learner, I studied education in college. I graduated in four years with a 4.0 grade point average in the Education Department. I student-taught in a first grade classroom at Springfield Elementary School. The following school year, I was hired at Springfield as a Kindergarten teacher. I develop lesson plans for all subject areas with a strong focus in reading and phonics. I feel that a strong knowledge of phonics allows for the students to successfully read independently.
