My comments on tutoring Algebra II : As a computer programmer or systems analyst, I kept my math skills sharp through my entire career.

Math and algebra were my best subjects in high school and college. As a computer programmer, I would frequently have to solve a "word problem" before creating a program that implemented my solution. Some of my programs include a statistical analysis of traffic data, a calculation of yield to maturity of long term bonds, implementation of federal tax withholding for pension checks, a mortgage or loan program, and the creation of round robin pairing tables for chess.
I try to see what the student already knows and go from there. Of course it is important that a student get an assigned math problem correct, but it is also important that the student UNDERSTANDS why something works and how that can be applied to other problems when a tutor or teacher isn't present.

My experience started in my high school years helping my brother and sisters with homework while our mom was working. Presently I am employed at a day care center/ school, were everyday is spent engaged with the kids and their educational needs. I love interacting with the children at work so much so, that the idea of taking on tutoring sounds more so like a new hobby.
The child chooses the style. What I mean by this is that every child is different and every one of them learn differently. Teaching on a more personal level is how to aid the best results.

Experienced and Creative Tutor in Math, Science, & ACT prep

I've been a tutor for the past 8 years. I started tutoring/teaching as a college student, and I've loved every moment. It's so rewarding to see a student's growth in a subject area. I've provided Praxis and ACT prep to students as well as provided help for subject are state tests such as Biology and U.S. History. I love all math and science related subjects and excel at helping students relate to them.
I prefer inquiry based learning in which I utilize the facilitator and "personal model" methods to help students improve their independence, increase their confidence to explore subjects independently, and show them first hand how to comprehend concepts

A Little Bit About Me...

I believe that the logic and rules of math and science subjects allows comprehension for virtually all students. I also understand that people process and learn information differently, therefore I cater my teaching approach to the individual to maximize their learning potential. I find what the student understands and build upon that for greater comprehension. I also try to teach problem solving skills and critical thinking by allowing the student to guide the decisions, redirecting when necessary. Many times students just need the confidence in their abilities in math and science to succeed in those areas.
I have experience tutoring and teaching in many different areas. Because of my educational background in Chemical Engineering, I have a very strong foundation in upper level math and sciences. I have tutored students both privately and through a sponsored program at The U ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

Throughout my educational experience, I beheld extraordinary wonders in each mentor I encountered. These professors evinced tremendous skill and articulation that provided me with exemplary character and creative style when interacting with my own pupils. I believe every mind to be a unique phenomenon and should be approached with elastically, catering to the student's particular needs and capabilities. My general modus operandi follows a 'mixed media' format consisting of visual, auditory, and theoretical analysis and application. The pallet of operation actively incorporates both traditional and contemporary style with modern adaptations. Each student possesses an individual well of knowledge that I fervently attempt to help tap.
Much of my institutional voyage was spent in the leviathan web of mathematics. I instinctively operated under such a language as the diffusive pro ... read more

I have worked with youth and at-risk youths between the ages of 5-17 for over nine years. During the course of the years, I have tutored students in all required subjects, such as, math, science, reading, and language arts. I have also had the opportunity to work with students with essays for student council positions held within their high school. Over the last three years, I have also had the opportunity to assist with ABE/GED pre-testing, as well as teaching basic computer skills, character education, and life skills workshops to youths and young adults.
I have always had a passion for teaching anyone who needed my assistance. I feel that everyone has the ability to learn anything that they put their mind to doing. Over the years, I have also learned that no one learns skills at the same level. Knowing that, I take my time and learn what interests the students that I'm helping a ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

For over eight years, I have been privileged to teach hundreds of adult learners through the Hinds Community College Adult Program. While I have taught all 5 subjects; Algebra, Geometry, English, Language Arts and Science, I enjoy Algebra, Geometry and English; specifically essay writing. Academically, I earned both degrees working as a full-time staff person, mother and wife. My passion to teach is driven by my desire to give back to the community and to share knowledge so that others may reach their purposeful goals. Young people need our help in this highly competitive society in which we live and serve.
A huge percentage of effective instruction is encouragement. Most students have the inept ability to learn, but often for no reason of their own, are unable to grasp subjects in a traditional setting. I have a passion to empower students, both children and adults, to be all ... read more
