I attended a preparatory school in Junior High and High School. I then went on to Mississippi College where I obtained a Bachelor degree in Home Economics with an emphysis on Fashion Merchandising. When I became a mom, I decided to home school my kids so that I could take an active part in their education and I could guide them in ways that someone else might not find interesting or important.

I have been teaching at the college level for 6 years, and I have 2 years of earlier experience at the middle school level as well. My BS in Electrical Engineering enables me to tutor effectively in math and science, and my PhD in Philosophy qualifies me for Science, History, and some writing help (I have published in peer-reviewed journals). I have often tutored privately for friends and family, and they tell me I do a very good job.
I prefer one-on-one conversation in a question-and-answer format (Socratic method). However, sometimes a straightforward explanation is needed. For math tutoring, the best results come from working through problems step-by-step.

I am a firm believer in using practical applications to textbook formulas and principles to help students understand the "meanings behind the math." However, everybody has their best learning style, and I strive to find that in those whom I have supervised (professionally) and taught in a college setting.
