Since graduating from my undergraduate program in 2007, I have had a passion for teaching and learning. My first teaching experience was working in Camden, New Jersey. I served as an intern art teacher for at-risk first through third graders in an after school/summer school program. Shortly thereafter I started my Master's program, where I integrated my passion for teaching into my capstone project. A Little Bit About Me...

I use verbal and visual techniques for teaching and prefer to add an element of kinetic learning for tutoring. I explain the material in the book, preferably after the students have read the chapter. I also provide time for questions and answers, as well as group discussions and projects. I rely on exams only to show me if the students are understanding the material. If not I offer to tutor them or suggest they find a tutor.
I tutored math and science for Carl Albert State College from Sept. 1994 to May 1995. I tutored mostly in Algebra, but also in word processing, and anatomy and physiology. After obtaining a list of objectives, I like to offer a pop quiz to set a baseline. Thereafter, topics are divided in number of days available for preparation. Most important topics and topics not well understood get time and individualized priority. Offer a challenge test at the end. Harder than the test students will face but no so hard as to lower self steem.

My teaching style is a collage of teaching styles. I am well aware that students retain and use information in numerous ways. Sometimes, I facilitate from the side, allowing the students to take hands on control with the information, at other periods, I might lecture on the topic and then question and discuss issues provided from what was just read. One just has to be acquainted with the learners' style and then the subject, lesson plan, and displaying of information can be customized more suitedly, to the student. Any student can learn, they just have to have the information provided to them in a manner where they can retain it and make it useful.
