My comments on tutoring ADD/ADHD : I have a Bachelors (BA) degree in Child Education with my Masters degree (MA) in Special Needs Education. For the past three years I have worked as an SEN teacher in three local schools in Liverpool UK working with children aged 5 years to 15 years with ADD / ADHD disorders

Whether working in a classroom or one-on-one at home I treat my pupil as a friend and confidant working with him/her to gain the pupils confidence and trust as the building block for their educational needs. I am an outgoing person and try to to make learning as fun as can be but with a strict approach to achieving goals. A Little Bit About Me...

My old next door neighbors have two children. One is a boy in elementary and one is a girl in middle school. I tutored the boy in reading and writing. He was able to read his first book on his own after a few weeks with me. I had to tutor the girl in math. she was taking algebra and was having a tough time with it. In two weeks of many meetings, she was able to pass her final exam. No matter what grade I was in, I always enjoyed going down to the ESE room and helping the special kids. I did what ever I could to help.

I have been working with kids of all ages for a long time. I love to see them learn and grow. That moment when they "get" something is magical! I spent the 2011-2012 school year teaching at a title 1 school in Collier County and have grown exponentially from it! I had several students in my class who needed special help, and half of my class were English language learners. These students have helped me to strengthen my skills and adapt to different student's styles.
I like to make teaching fun! If a student is bored they aren't going to be putting 100% into their work. I also use a positive reward system and celebrate all achievement. Even if it is minor.

I love teaching all ages, nearly all subjects. I understand that everyone has different styles of learning. When teaching to a group, ideally all styles would be touched on (auditory, visual, hands-on). When working one-on-one, though, it is possible to teach towards that individual's particular style of learning. This works so much better than a one-size-fits-all method of teaching. If one way of teaching isn't working, I search for a different approach, until I find one that works. I try to explain concepts using ideas and terms that the student is familiar with. This allows the student to relate new concepts to already familiar ones, which helps it 'stick' better. I love 'aha' or 'lightbulb' moments - it makes it all worthwhile!

I taught 4th and 5th grades for 4 years and then taught science as an exploratory to all of the students for 4 years.
