As a Walden University and La Roche College graduate, I was motivated to achieve a high level of excellence in health sciences. I have earned a BS and a master’s degree in Public Health, which enabled me to gain an understanding in the areas of health and sciences. In addition, I have a nursing degree from Africa (French speaking) as well as over 100 credits hours in nursing from Carlow University. I was awarded a college scholarship to study in the USA because of high school academic achievement. I have trained students in a laboratory, restaurant and in the home. I graduated from college with honors and have succeeded in statistics, algebra 2, calculus 1, biology 1, chemistry 1, English literature, professional writing, civics, sketching/painting and classical guitar It's imperative to listen and understand a students challenges. Reviewing their previous work and giving a current test is a good indicator of the situation. I believe in practice and examples as the clearest path to success. I don't hand deliver answers and I make the process towards answers engaging. I make sure the time and place are conducive to active and non-distractive learning. I relay the importance and relevance of the material. I recap previous lessons and try to integrate them into current assignments. Since I have the opportunity to work one-on-one with students on a daily basis I try to tailor my teaching style to each student. When students are more visual I try to use photos or stories to explain concepts. However, when students learn better by reading I allow them to do so, and discuss the reading after they have had time to absorb the information. I feel like I have to adjust to each student's individual learning style when trying to teach. I am currently working towards my Masters Degree in School Counseling and work as an intern at McCaskey High School. In addition to counseling I am interested in tutoring students, as I believe with a solid education anything is possible. I have worked at Huntington Learning Center in the past and enjoyed the tutoring experience. There is no better feeling then helping a student reach his/her potential.
