While in high school I completed two years in a practicum that put me in a classroom working one on one with students my junior and senior years. I completed my undergraduate degree in Middle School Education with an emphasis in Language Arts. I taught four years of Language Arts and Reading at a small rural school south of St. Joseph, and now I am back in school obtaining my Master's in Reading Education. As a parent of two school-aged children I have had the oppurtunity to learn about the newest teaching methods employed by teachers at this time. We often work together on math and science. I've worked as an addiction tech, juvenile court officer, volunteered at Girls, Inc., an obituary writer, and a freelance writer. In each of those positions, at many a time, I had to assist someone with writing. My mom was a K-8 grade teacher, as were all of my aunts, so it runs in the family. All of them were English Majors. I just chose to write as a career instead of teach. But throughout my different job experiences, I've had to assist others with their writing needs. It can be as simple as telling them what they need for something, as in an obituary, to as detailed as helping them build a business plan.
