My desire to teach stems from my hopeful view of youth. During the past seven years I have been successful in promoting access to higher education to youth of diverse backgrounds by organizing educational workshops and/or working directly on school campuses. I have earned a B.A. in Communications with an emphasis in advertising and a minor in Chicano Studies, which has enabled me to gain skills in public speaking, creative writing and art. A Little Bit About Me...

Over the course of my career, I have taught a wide variety of courses for age groups K-12 which include: English, math, history, geography and English as a second language. I am quite comfortable with classes of different sizes, at different levels, and with various teaching styles. I incorporate the tactile, visual and auditory teaching methods. I have also taught adults to read in the adult literacy programs at many libraries. Some believe classes should be teacher-centered, where the teacher is expert and authority in presenting information. Others take a learner-centered approach, viewing their role as more of a facilitor of student learning. I do both.

A Little Bit About Me...

I started in school system in 1999..I became a mentor working with at risk students I wanted to help students who lacked confidence, had low academic test scores, and lower level learners.I worked in Special Ed. for 5 yrs as teachers aide grades 6th, 7th, and 8th.I worked in the after school program teaching 4th and 5th grade combo. I have a Bachelors Degree, and have four classes toward a Masters. I began substitute teaching, learning handicapped, pre-k,k-3,and infant developement. I always praised my students for making an effort. When they felt good about themselves it showed in the quality of their work. I always let them know that if they applied themselves they could achieve anything.

A Little Bit About Me...

As someone who has loved reading and books since a young age, I knew exactly what I wanted to do with my life: A career as a writer and a reading teacher. I obtained an AA Degree in Journalism (writing) and a BA Degree in Communications (reading/writing) with emphasis in PR and Journalism. I currently work as the Librarian of an elementary-school library part-time in the mornings/early afternoons.
