A Little Bit About Me...

One on one or group. Lessons taught, homework assigned, then follow up of homework assignment.
My experience, (both academic and work)has been widely varied, ranging from research and engineering to financial management in a corporate environment, followed by golf course design and landscape management. In addition I used my experience in construction and woodworking to build and market patio furniture. Unfortunately the housing depression of the mid 2000's caused the business to be non profitable and was closed. Since 2005 I have been semi retired and used my construction experience to work at a lumber and hardware store.

After graduating from college with my Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, I taught a year of Sp. Ed.,at the elementary level. I returned to school and earned my M.A. in Psychology. I then taught elementary Sp. Ed. for two more years. Shortly after, I began homeschooling my own children. My oldest is now in high school and has been homeschooled the entire time. We have tackled various subjects including Spanish, Algebra, Physical Science, Astronomy, etc. etc. etc. I have also worked as a paid tutor and teach homeschooling classes from pre-K through high school levels.
I love teaching all ages, nearly all subjects. I understand that everyone has different styles of learning. When teaching to a group, ideally all styles would be touched on (auditory, visual, hands-on). When working one-on-one, though, it is possible to teach towards that individual's particular style of learning ... read more

I retired from a class A school district in Michigan where I was basically the theatre department. I ran an active program for the high school, and produced two to three major plays a year. I also taught all levels of English in the classroom. I would describe myself as a likeable teacher, who got results with the majority of students I worked with. I am an outgoing, friendly person, who understands that students learn at different degrees, but that all students can improve - with the help of teachers, family and community.
I am a retired classroom teacher from Michigan Public School Systems, with 30 plus years teaching experience. I have experience at all levels (7-12) of English, Speech Education, and Drama. I have also have two years experience in the areas of ESL/ELL with my previous school district. I have taught primarily at the high school level, and during that time, ... read more

The definition of success varies from person to person, from situation to situation, from school to school, from goal to goal. A success story that I am proud to repeat to all who will listen occurred during the 2003-2004 school year. I had a group of 50 awnery, rambunctious, and extremely diverse eighth graders. These eighth graders were highly motivated. Unfortunately they were not motivated in the area of English, or responsibility, dependability, perseverance, or respect. Though these students had an abundance of creativity, knowledge, and ability, they lacked the focus and direction to use it TOWARD their education rather than AGAINST it. Through a lot of modeling, practice, encouragement, praise, and I'll admit, a lot of begging at times, these students began to become self-advocates for their own education. They began clearly seeing their education as an investment ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

Helping people is a top priority in my life. Knowledge is important and necessary for success. I believe that everyone can learn given the right teaching method. I try to individualize the ways I use to help each student. I use hands on learning techniques whenever possible and I feel it is important to use many different teaching methods(oral, written and example) to get ideas across and maintain student interest.
I received my BS in 1978 and my continuing certificate 3 years later. I have worked with youth(6th grade-12th grade) in a classroom setting. I have also worked with adult learners to re-train them for the workplace. Another population of students I have worked with were imprisoned youth aged 13-21. As a substitute teacher I did a great deal of tutoring, especially in math. I also taught several home-schooled courses. Most recently I have been a fitness instruct ... read more

Throughout my studies I have learned that all students learn differently. When teaching in a classroom, I will have to discover the way each student learns individually. An important aspect of my teaching experience has been to get down on that students level, and look at the struggles each student has in the classroom. I modify lessons in order to have each student adapt them to his or her own learning style. I believe that each student is willing to learn, but needs to discover the best learning style suitable to their abilities.
As an English Education major, I have had numerous encounters in the classroom with each of my classroom practicums. After completing my degree in the fall of 2009, I will have over three semesters of classroom experience, working with students from the sixth grade to the twelfth grade. I have also worked as a childcare provider for several years, ... read more

In working with children I have learned that it is important to be excited about what you are teaching. That excitement is contagious and creates a desire to self learn and creates long term study habits. That excitement will be reflected in a students' progress as they gain more knowledge about a certain subject. My goal is to inspire a child to realize what they are able to accomplish through hard work and fun.
During my years as an undergraduate student I took on extensive study habits that included working in study groups and tutoring other classmates who were struggling with material. In my undergraduate experience I have acquired the knowledge and skills necessary to comprehend extensive material including math, physics, chemistry, and life sciences. As an honors student I was required to speak in front of large groups of people and explain complex subjects in areas that I ha ... read more
