I graduated with a degree in Physical Science Education, which gives me a strong background in Physical Sciences and in math. I have worked with children and youth of all age levels and nearly every ability. I ran an afterschool program for the Salvation Army, ran a boys home for troubled boys and worked in St. Paul City schools as a substitute teacher and a night teacher at an evening school. I love teaching and learning. After graduating with a bachelor's degree in English and Journalism from Northwestern, I went on to tutor students in Biblical Hebrew while earning my master's in theology. I enjoyed teaching so much that I decided to earn a master's degree in education. While working on that degree, I tutored students in English, reading and math at Educational Partners. Being in college for four years exposed me to social environments that I normally wouldn't have been able to encounter on a day to day basis. I always remember having a passion for education, for example my favorite game as a child was school where I got to be the teacher. Thus, I thought I had found my niche once I became a certified schoolteacher and secured my first teaching assignment. I was enamored with my students and the learning process. I substitute taught around the South Hills of Pittsburgh for a year, then moved to Virginia, where I taught fifth grade for four years. The first three years were in a public school and the fourth in a private school. I taught all subject areas and skill level abilities.
I would describe my teaching style as hands on and according to multiple learning styles. I understand that students learn best when they have the option of working with material objects. I also realize that students all learn in different ways and therefore I try to teach to each student's learning style.
