I have seen through substituting that there are many children who need extra attention to help them understand a certain subject. Tutoring will allow me to give them the one-on-one they need to learn something that is hard in a classroom setting. I like to connect with the children immediately and try to use examples of real-life situations to guide their learning. I believe a good learning technique is to use the things the children are familiar with and try to apply it to what I am teaching them. I was a Missionary in Panama for fourteen years. Learned Spanish through a two-year course in the country. As a missionary, I went on to teach Literacy and Bible to indigenous peoples there. After coming home stateside, although not certified, I earned extra income by giving classes in English to Hispanics in my home. I also taught English to monolingual Hispanics through an Afterschool program in Northeast Elementary, Jackson, MI. I worked as a Paraeducator in Northeast Elementary, as a General Education Paraeducator, but I often subbed for regular ESL teacher aides in the classroom.
