Patient, positive, effective, and experienced tutor

My name is Cristina, and I love to tutor:) I have tutored and/or taught almost every age group. I was a writing tutor for three years in college and also held a graduate assistantship in which I proofread documents to be submitted for publication. I have also helped elementary-age students with their homework at an after-school program at a local elementary school. Currently I work with young children at The Goddard School and love it. I consider myself to be a "beginner" teacher as I have recently graduated college and received my license. I have spent roughly 500 hours in the field as a result of college course requirements, and I have successfully completed a 12 week internship (student teaching) experience. I have had the opportunity to work in many different subject areas and classroom settings with students of various backgrounds, ages, and learning styles.
I try to take a hands-on approach to teaching when possible. I find it helpful to use varied and often unusual objects and materials when teaching a lesson; it tends to make the material more memorable. However I am not above using the standard pencil/paper/textbook approach when needed.

My comments on tutoring Language Arts : I have been teaching Language Arts with a student growth rate of 1 year 3 months for 7 years.

I have been working with the school system for several years. I am currently teaching a fourth/fifth grade split. I am very experienced in working with children who are at risk, special needs, and add/adhd. I have a proven track record of student growth in core subjects of 1 year 3 months. I enjoy tutoring and teaching and I work a great deal with parents in order to keep the educational goals on the same page for their child. I have experience in both the world of sociology and psychology. I am able to adapt to behavioral issues that plague some children. I work hard to really get to know the student and help them calm themselves if they should have test anxiety etc. Every child is unique and all children have to be taught in the way in which they can truly learn.
