A Little Bit About Me...

I focus on using examples from real business to explain problems and assignments in a clear, straightforward and step-by-step manner. I enjoy teaching and mentoring students and have been complimented many times by former students for my ability to explain complicated concepts in a way that makes them easy to understand. I believe it is important not understand not just the how of the work, but also the why, so that the students will be able to apply what they learn in the future.
I have a Master of Accounting degree from Virginia Tech, where I was a Graduate Teaching Assistant. I taught Accounting, Finance and Business Math for two years at the undergraduate level after graduation. I am currently Controller for a medium-sized construction company, and use all aspects of accounting and finance in my daily work life.

I am a Certified Public Accountant with over 30 years of accounting and finance experience. Although I have no formal teaching degree, I feel that I would be an excellent tutor. First, I have successfully trained many employees over the years. Second, my two sons, ages 21 and 19 graduated numbers 2 and 1 in their high school classes, respectively. Now, both are "straight A" students at the University of Tennessee. Here, I feel that I have lead by example.
