I remain convinced of the necessity of obtaining basic math skills for success in today's world, and I spend a lot of time maintaining my own skills in math and computers. Younger people need sometimes more than one exposure to math and the sciences. I know I did. Part of the problem is the pre anxiety associated with taking these more rigorous courses. My philosophy is to break down the subjects into digestible parts. Also I feel the student must be shown practical applications with various different resources, revealing the common threads of the processes. There is no reason math and science should be thought of as beyond the reach of any student.
