A Little Bit About Me...

I believe there are multiple learning styles. One of my goals as a teacher is to find each students' learning style and teach to fit their needs. I believe that practice makes perfect but also that learning needs to be fun. I set the bar high for my students and do my best to help motivate them to reach a high standard.
In college I was a nanny to three middle school students for two years. While being their nanny I was also their tutor in all subjects but focused on math. I graduated from SJSU with a major in History and a minor in Mathematics. I substitute taught in January and February 2007 then was a long-term substitute from March until the end of May in a sixth grade math, science, and history combination class. For the past two years I have taught eighth grade Algebra. While teaching I have also tutored a sixth grade student in math.

In college, I worked as a Teacher's Assistant at my old high school and as a private math tutor for 1-2 years in subjects ranging from algebra to calculus. I also worked as a college math seminar instructor for 2 years, teaching college-level calculus. After graduating with a degree in history as well as with completion of pre-medical requirements I started tutoring students grades k-12 as well as college students in math, science, english and reading. After college I completed 2 years of FAA flight training and began teaching ground and flight instruction for all levels of pilot training (including aerobatics), which has allowed me to hone my teaching skills working with so many different age groups, personalities and cultural backgrounds. A Little Bit About Me...

I am currently working as the Math Specialist at a K-8th school where I provide assistance to students who need extra help or are performing below grade level. I also work with students in 8th grade teaching Algebra to those who have the ability to learn at a faster pace than the class as a whole.
I first determine the student's level in each subject, and tutor accordingly. Since every person learns in a different way, I may try more than one approach until it is clear that the student is gaining an understanding of the subject matter. I am patient, positive, and encouraging. I find it very rewarding to help others.
