I enjoy working with students and showing them the joy of learning. I believe that children learn most in small groups and one on one environments. I earned an alternative teaching certification, which allowed me to work as an inclusion teacher at the middle school level, which allowed me to spend a great deal of time working with small groups and in one on one settings. As the daughter of educators, I have been exposed to the education system all my life. As a result of this exposure, I became very interested in tutoring and teaching. I taught for two years as a substitute teacher before attending law school. I previously worked as a substitute teacher with Morrow Elementary in North Lauderdale, Florida where I taught test-taking strategies for the Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test. Most recently, I have volunteered with Youth Encouragement services as a tutor. Based on previous experience I have discovered that the same teaching style does not work for every child. I find that explaining each topic and asking the child question gives a clear indication of their understanding. I believe that when a student does not do well in school, it is not because that student cannot learn. Different teaching methods speak to different students, and sometimes a student simply needs a fresh and alternative introduction to subject material. My job as a tutor is to find the teaching method that speaks most clearly to my student. By being patient, precise, persistent, and knowledgeable, I know I can help my student reach his/her academic goals.
