My comments on tutoring Psychology : Have experience in providing individual and group tutoring college students for general psychology courses.

I am a Licensed Psychologist in the State of Minnesota and have been working as a psychologist for going on 20 years. Both my undergraduate and Master's degrees are in psychology and counseling services. As an undergraduate, I was the psychology tutor for college students who were taking the general psychology classes. In my current job, I provide counseling, consultation and coaching services to employees in over organizations. Learning has been a life-long passion of mine and I have volunteered at a number of organizations over my career to provide tutoring on general courses for elementary students through a YMCA program, and also provided life skill tutoring and coaching for Hmong refugees who recently entered the U.S. I also keep myself abreast of new developments in the field of psychology by participating in a book ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I attended Denison University in Ohio where I earned a B.A. in psychology, summa cum laude, with a minor in music performance (trumpet). I was a department fellow and tutor, primarily working with psychology and writing students, and also worked as a stage manager in the music department. After college, I headed to The Ohio State University where I earned a Ph.D. in cognitive psychology with a specialization in college teaching. While I was a graduate student, I taught general psychology and ACT prep courses and scored ACT and SAT writing exams. Thanks to my education, I am an expert in psychology, reading, writing, and general scientific literacy. As a teacher and a tutor, I have worked with students ranging from children to doctoral degree candidates. I like tutoring students individually because it allows me to tailor my approach to each student in a way that I could never do in a cla ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I have always had a passion for helping others learn. In high school I tutored students from different schools in math. After graduating with two bachelor's degrees from the University of Minnesota I began working full time as a financial analyst for Target Corporation. At the same time, I started teaching part time at a learning center. In the past three years I have been able to help students of all ages from first grade through college. For the past year I have been teaching an ACT prep class for high school students.
I believe that every person has an optimal way in which they learn. Ideas that seem complicated can be made easy by simply changing the way in which it is presented. As a teacher it is important for me recognize how my students best learn and use that to present material. I also believe that students need to feel comfortable with their teachers. That is why I m ... read more

I am an accountant by occupation, and my tutoring experience is primarily as a volunteer, because I love learning and helping others to learn. As a volunteer at the New Brighton Community Education Center, I provided weekly Basic Reading and ESL tutoring. As a long-time volunteer for the Center for Victims of Torture, I assisted clients with filling out job and other applications and with practice in conversational English.

More About This Tutor...

I believe that each child has their own special style of learning in which they succeed the best at. When I tutor students I take the time to get to know each student on an individual basis and as a unique person. I make it a priority to determine their learning style and use that to implement a plan. I try and understand the reason they are having problems in their studies and then execute a plan in which they can succeed. I create study guides, review questions, and sample test questions for the students as well. In addition, a tutor can be a positive role model in student's lives and serve as a mentor and can be a person who the students can count on to answer questions.
As a student I enjoyed school and learning and therefore went on after high school to obtain a B.S in Biology. I have always enjoyed science, math, and writing and enjoy helping others in these subjects a ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I began teaching at a very young age. I began my own music lesson company which taught basic level of piano, guitar, saxophone and voice lessons out of my house before I began high school. After achieving my certificate of proficiency in Spanish from Hamline I then began to also privately tutor Spanish. I also have earned my TEFL/TESOL certificate and will eventually go abroad and teach English overseas.
I have worked mainly with children, but enjoy teaching all ages. I tend to take a systematic approach and keep my lessons structured. I like to have students keep some sort of record of their practice time, as well as their progress. I also am a strong believer in making learning fun, so I try to listen to my students' needs and pay attention to their learning styles so I can create activities that they will not only find educational but fun as well.

I greatly enjoy teaching children at all levels. Through a variety of approaches and encouraging persistence, I believe children can gain knowledge of and proficiency in all subjects. A multi-disciplinary approach ensures a child's growth has both depth and breadth. I aim to teach in a way that develops the intellect and cultivates the character of my students so that they become critical and virtuous members of and contributors to society.
I became interested in tutoring during my three years of graduate study at Princeton Theological Seminary. Studying theology in my undergraduate and graduate work required me to invest strongly in multiple subjects such as history, philosophy, languages, politics and literature. This equipped me to tutor multiple subjects at various levels.
