I try to help students see the course material in a holistic context by requiring them to synthesize the various concepts of the course by applying them together. College Algebra is the combination of Algebra 1 and 2 although it is slightly more complicated it is basically the same principles and concepts as high school algebra. I feel that I am more than capable of teaching someone how to manipulate equations and think analytically. From my tutoring experience I have noticed that most students who have trouble understanding a difficult concept do so because they did not understand a more basic prerequisite concept, so I try to help students "fill in the gaps." When working with students, I work through a few problems with them, and then I have them do a few problems on their own to see if they understand. If I see that the student does not understand some prerequisite concepts required to solve the problems, I make sure to have them understand those concepts before continuing with the current problems.
