My comments on tutoring Geography : Certified teacher

Typically, our first meeting would be to discern what you need-- where are you struggling? where do you need extra help or motivation? What are your goals? With your input, I would create a syllabus to follow over the course of the period of time for which you desire tutoring services. If you need help with particular assignments, need me to create assignments for you, or recommend additional resources, we can work any of that in.

An intellectual and goofy tutor looking to help out.

I don't any paid, professional tutoring experience. However, I have volunteered my services to family members and friends. During my sophomore year, I took Organic Chemistry and excelled. However, my friends were struggling. They hated me a bit for how easy it came to me. I decided to tutor them and help them with homework assignments and studying. They ended up doing very well on the exams, allowing them to secure a 3.0 or higher in the course. I also had to regular help my classmates out with more complex problems in Physics. I was not so much tutoring as working together with them on the homework, but still, it involved clear explanation and a thorough knowledge of the subject matter.
I always liked playing up my quirky personality. My favorite teachers and professors were the goofy ones, the ones who can relate to the students' fun side. These teachers also challenged me the ... read more

History geek, Arabic student.

I can be formal, especially with younger students, but am accustomed to tutoring my peers in a relatively informal setting.
I graduated with honors with degrees in history and economics from the University of Texas at Austin. I am an obsessive student of history, specializing in the history of the British Empire in the 19th century, with a 70 page thesis on the subject that I am in the process of getting published. As of June 2013 I will have just returned from a full year in Egypt studying Arabic after four years of studying Arabic in Austin, including a summer in Morocco, as part of a Defense Department program for critical language study. I will have achieved advanced proficiency by U.S. government standards, and will be able to teach both Modern Standard Arabic and Egyptian Colloquial Arabic. During July of 2013 I will most likely be teaching Arabic part time at the University ... read more

I am a recent graduate from Indiana University who has a passion for art, history, and film. I spent most of my college career teaching at IU Outdoor Adventures, Indiana University's outdoor recreation program. There, I gained the skills to instruct on rock climbing and backpacking. I believe that the teaching style I learned there pertains to teaching any subject. A teacher should guide the student to the answer, rather than giving it to them in an easy answer. I also worked as a Naturecrafts staff member at Camp Barney Medintz in Cleveland, GA. At CBM, I taught kids ages 8 to 16 outdoor skills and guided backpacking trips. Working there taught me how to best educate all ages in a fun and interactive manner. Whether it be playing a game or taking a walk, learning can be enjoyable.

A Little Bit About Me...

From January 2006 through August 2008, I worked part-time as a freshman composition instructor, writing lab tutor, and teaching assistant for the English department at UNT. As an instructor, I taught two classes per long semester and one, intensive summer session. During the fall semesters, I taught Composition I, which introduced students to a variety of writing concepts, such as the personal essay and the visual text. The students wrote five papers, three to five pages in length, with each paper designed around one of the concepts. For those exercises, I emphasized the importance organization, grammar, and syntax rather than content. During the spring semesters, I taught Composition II, which required the students to develop critical reading and thinking skills as a progression toward a final research paper. The students prepared two papers covering assigned works of anthologized ... read more

Educated professional - Alternative tutor

I worked in after school progrmas all through college and generally enjoy helping children study. I am very engaging, patient and relate well to any age child or young adult. I am not a proto-typical, traditional "tutor" in that I never studied education in a pedagogical sense, but I am highly educated and always made high grades in every level of school. I may can help where the traditonal teachers/tutors have been unsuccessful. I have no specialized training related to ADD/ADHD other than I have been diagnosed as such since high school. I learned to thrive in light of it and feel like I have insight into those with the same diagnosis.

A Little Bit About Me...

As a graduate of Southwestern University with a Bachelor in English and Communications, I was drawn to the field of education. I come from a family of teachers. After earning a post-baccalaureate certification in Secondary Education with a focus on English/Language Arts, I taught for a couple years and wanted to expand my teaching to younger students as well. I am also certified in elementary k-6 instruction. My passion and specialization are in reading instruction, literature, grammar, and composition. A Little Bit About Me...

I teach students from where they are! Sometimes there are gaps and holes in past learning that can be filled in before the student can soar. I am very personable, encouraging and understand how intimidating the blank page or the prospects of taking a standardized test can be.
I have over 25 years of experience as a high school and college English instructor. I have a bachelor degree in English education and a masters in liberal arts with 18 graduate hours in English. I began and operated my own private, fully accredited high school, test prep and tutoring companies.

Every child can learn, it just takes a good teacher to help make that happen. A teacher must assess each student for their learning style, ability, and readiness. I want to get to know my students so that I can better understand what motivates them to succeed and develop positive relationships. I care about all students and want to make a difference.
While pursuing my Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology, I volunteered my time at the Boys and Girls Club of America and tutored students of all ages in reading, math, science, and social studies. I am currently completing an alternative certification program for Texas teacher certification, and I am highly qualified to teach early childhood to sixth grade.

Besides having eleven years of teaching experience in the classroom, I have seven years of one-on-one tutoring experience with students in grades K-12. I created and managed an alternative program for a school district and developed all the curriculum for grades K-12. High school students were taught skills to prepare them to take the GED. My specialties include math and language arts courses.
My passion is teaching. I love it when a student's lightbulb goes off and everything fits in place. That moment of discovery excites me as much as it does the student. Consistant praise produces positive results. My goal in life is to instill in my students the desire to become lifetime learners.

I am a born teacher, and I love the challenge of bringing students who are less than engaged in the learning process to becoming eager and confident learners. I am patient, though I also believe in setting goals and reaching benchmarks and deadlines. My basic philosophy is that all young people are not only able to learn but also capable of much more than they or their environment may believe. My goal is to increase their confidence by praising their successes, and to hone their skills by expecting rigorous application of their efforts to the learning tasks at hand.
I have been teaching and tutoring students since the 1980's, both in Israel (where I completed my B.A.) and in the United States, first as a graduate student and then as an Assistant Professor of English. I have worked with adults. I prefer a one on one direct instruction and mentoring, keeping everything simple and fun. I am not sure how well I would be with children; I have none of my own and have not spent much time with my nephews and nieces. I have worked with a few of my friends children, helping them understand algebra, showing them how simple it really is and how it can be fun.
As a engineer I have been training operators in everything form SPC to troubleshooting for 30 years. I am a volunteer tutor for Adult ESL & GED for the Literacy Council of Williamson County since June 2009.
