I believe that instructional strategies should be varied and flexible. Students are unique and their learning styles are different. Teachers need to have varied instructional strategies to try and meet the needs of the diversity of their students. I believe that knowledge of subject matter is extremely important, but not the sole component in instruction. In Mathematics, teachers need to have an understanding of mathematics as well as methods for transferring this knowledge to students. A Language Arts teacher may be knowledgeable about reading and writing, but has to find creative, interesting methods and activities to make students want to learn.

Presently, I am a student at Walden University working towards obtaining a Ph.D. in Psychology. Since I had earned my BA’s in Psychology and Accounting, MA in Community Counseling, I firmly believe in the institution of learning. I have a diverse spectrum of knowledge from these disciplines. I had volunteered time at Indian River giving psychological assessments to the youths that were incarcerated. Additional volunteer time was as a Guardian Ad Litem with Stark County Family Court and a volunteer in the Witness Protection Program with the County Prosecutors office. I am a CPA with a Master's Degree in Taxation and a BS degree in Accounting. I have teaching experience with Robert Morris having taught Intermediate Accounting in 1984. I also have taught various accounting and tax seminars and continuing education classes.

A Little Bit About Me...

At MSU, I first worked as a Supplemental Instructor and then became a Graduate Assistant (before I even earned my Bachelor's degree) in the School of Business. I also worked in the math department as an Undergraduate Teaching Assistant. I have taught business, accounting and math classes at the college level when instructor was absent. Accounting is by far my strong suit, followed by Excel, Economics and Math, however I do not use high-level math often, although I got A's in everything throughout college.
I enjoy teaching at a high school level or above. I am very hands on. I am a bit of a story teller - rearranging the circumstances of the problem into an issue more easily related to by the student. I am very patient and relaxed - there are very few people who have a lower stress level than I do.

During my 35-year of teaching, I spent 30 years teaching everything from Alg. 1, Geometry, Alg. 2, Trig., Statistics. I was also a math department chair for 5+ years. In that capacity I wrote curriculum for local and county districts. I also lead my department and county in choosing texts. I worked on committees at the county level in training teachers. After my retirement, I realized that I missed teaching and working with young people and helping them prepare for ACT tests and classroom assignments. I have spent the last year tutoring at Sylvan learning centers. I absolutely love my job! However, my center is closing and I hope to move on.
