A Little Bit About Me...

I am a successful business woman who has taught for the last 15 years. What makes me successful as a teacher or tudor lies in the fact that I bring concrete proof to the student on what they need to learn. I motivate them to getting through on this study. Although students don't typically like math and accounting I tell them this is a means to an end. So to the parents, I choose to teach and tutor, this means I love motivating the student at all ages. A Little Bit About Me...

I have a BS in Child development with a minor in phsychology and I was teaching for Head Start back before I finished my degree. I have since finished and I am looking to expand my range. I love math and it just comes easy for me. I have a background in Engineering and Calculas.
I first make learning fun and exciting. As in past experience each child learns diffently and I need to be able to adapt to this. I first see what the level of the child is then work on the next step and help make sure the new level is learned as well as the old level is still maintained.

Students experience the most successful and memorable experience through making models, my use of videos and working together in small groups. I also utilize "foldables" as study aids and on occasion oral testing. I have found that some students are more successful in comphrension hearing questions rather than reading questions. It also gives them a chance at telling me what they really know. They are allowed the freedom to explain the answer rather than writing one answer. It helps me get the "pulse" of the class. These techniques incorporate all learning styles.

As a tutor with Webster University's student literacy corps, I worked with individuals, pre-K-adult, on reading, literacy, and writing skills. I held this position for two years along with a summer position tutoring Algebra and French with HEC Upward Bound, which service at-risk youth. I found both programs extremely enjoyable and found that all of my students were eager to learn and improve their skill set.
It has been my experience that each student has his/her individuals needs and that each learns differently. Some students remember best what they see, some what they hear, but nearly all will best recall material that they see hear say and do something with. My teaching style is one that tries to incorporate seeing, hearing, saying, and doing and getting students to use higher order thinking skills as much as I can. More than just rote memory and recall, I want then to be able to apply acquired knowledge to solve problems or create new ideas based on their previous learning.

I really enjoy tutoring. I love watching the students gain confidence as we work through the problems. I believe my attitude and approach to teaching helps the students.
