My comments on tutoring Elementary Social Studies : Social Studies can actually be interesting! I teach the student to use concept maps, visualizing, and text features to increase understanding. We can even act out what is happening in the text!

I am very active in the classroom and I believe in making learning fun and enjoyable. There are so many ways to help children learn, yet many of them are not used for one reason or another. If information must be memorized, I like to put it to song or a rap. Other methods of learning that are very useful are concept maps, discussions, and performing. Another very successful method that I've employed is having the student actually teach me rather than me teach the student. It is VERY effective.
I've got around 8 years of college and university work under my belt, and I am getting ready to finish a BA in Elementary Education from Western Governors University. I love teaching. I have completed training over engaging difficult students and I have also learned more innovative techniques in which to use when engaging students who are trying to achieve more challenging skills. I designed a program called Math Mates, which was an after school intervention program for students who needed more hands on time for learning, I opened the program up for all students but set aside certain days when specific students were invited so we could use more hands on manipulative and we worked on the different content standards.

I have working with people of all ages since my teen years to help them excel in areas they once struggled. I currently do some subbing in local districts and help out area students in various content areas. I taught school for 12 years at the middle level, mostly in Math. I developed and implemented an AT-Risk program in the Milwaukee area. Then became a stay at home mom. I currently work at an area Insurance Company and help students when I can.
